From Western Africa to Japan
January 4, 2013 from 05:23:00 to 05:56:16 GMT
This journey will carry us from the border of Congo and the Democratic Republic of Congo to just east of Japan. We move northeast over central Africa just after sunrise.
As we fly over northeastern Africa, the Nile River can be seen tracing a zigzag across the rust-colored desert.
We cross over the Red Sea before sweeping across the Arabian Peninsula and the Middle East.
Leaving Baghdad and Tehran below, we can spot the Caspian Sea in the distance, surrounded by the Elburz Mountains.
On a cloudless day, we would see the Mongolian steppes and Ulan Bator, the Earth’s coldest capital city.
Our journey ends with a northeastern flight over the deep snows of Western Russia and China.
